Punjab govt prepares for safe celebration of Basant

The Punjab government has initiated preparations to celebrate the Basant festival safely in Lahore next year.

Following the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab, a high-level committee has been established to ensure a secure Basant event.

According to sources, the festival is proposed to be celebrated in February, with two specific days being earmarked for the occasion.

It is anticipated that the inner city of Lahore will serve as the main venue for Basant festivities.

A proposal is also under consideration to impose a two-day ban on motorcycles to prevent any untoward incidents during the celebration.

To ensure a safe Basant, several important Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are being developed.

According to these SOPs, the sale and purchase of kites and threads will only be permitted through individuals registered with the district administration. Kite makers will also need to register with the district authorities.

The SOPs specify that the use of glass or other hazardous materials in thread production will be strictly prohibited. After the threads are produced, the district administration will inspect them to verify that safe materials have been used.

Strict action will be taken against those who violate these SOPs. Officials have stated that this year’s Basant festival will be celebrated with traditional cultural flair but under protective measures to ensure that no valuable lives are lost, as has happened in the past.
