Paris Saint-Germain are back in the UEFA Champions League final for only the second time in their history, after a clinical 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Parc des Princes sealed a 3-1 aggregate victory on Wednesday night.
On a night packed with drama and world-class moments, it was Gianluigi Donnarumma who stole the spotlight. The Italian goalkeeper produced three world-class saves to keep PSG in control and deny a spirited Arsenal side from mounting a comeback.
Fabián Ruiz opened the scoring with a stunning half-volley in the 27th minute, giving PSG an early edge after surviving intense pressure from the Gunners. But it was Donnarumma’s save off Martin Ødegaard’s rocket that kept the lead intact — a stop many are calling the save of the tournament.
In the second half, Achraf Hakimi doubled PSG’s lead, curling in a low shot after Arsenal failed to clear their lines. Arsenal pulled one back almost immediately through Bukayo Saka, but the young English star later missed a golden opportunity to equalize, skying his shot with the goal wide open.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and midfielder Declan Rice both acknowledged Donnarumma as the match-winner, calling him “the best player across the tie.”
The result sets up a blockbuster final showdown in Munich’s Allianz Arena on May 31, where PSG will meet Inter Milan — who knocked out Barcelona in extra time in what many are calling one of the greatest Champions League ties ever.
With their Qatari ownership era desperate for European silverware, PSG now find themselves just one win away. Is this finally their year?
