A massive fire that broke out during a boring operation in Karachi’s Korangi Crossing area remains uncontrolled even after 36 hours. Experts believe the fire is fueled by an underground gas pocket, which will eventually deplete, causing the flames to die down naturally.

The fire broke out on the night between Friday and Saturday and continued to rage as of Sunday noon.

Chief Fire Officer stated that initial attempts to douse the fire using water and sand proved ineffective, leading authorities to halt those efforts. Fire brigade teams remain on-site, with six to seven vehicles deployed to prevent further spread.

Pakistan Refinery Limited MD Zahid Mir confirmed that the fire is fueled by shallow gas and poses no threat to nearby oil refinery installations, which are located 500 meters away. He added that sample reports are being analyzed, and a new approach to extinguish the fire will be adopted based on expert recommendations.

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab assured that no lives have been lost, and the city’s infrastructure remains unaffected. He urged media outlets to avoid sensationalizing the incident and advised the public to refrain from visiting the affected area until further notice.
