Kaghan highway partially reopened to Naran after five-month closure

After remaining closed for five months due to heavy glaciers and landslides, the Kaghan highway has been partially reopened up to Naran, allowing jeeps to enter the town. However, the route remains inaccessible to smaller vehicles.

According to local administration, the Kaghan-Naran road had been blocked since winter due to massive snow accumulation, particularly at the Gorian Glacier. After days of strenuous clearing efforts, snow was removed from the key section, enabling limited vehicular movement—mostly jeeps—into Naran.

Authorities clarified that the road is not yet safe for smaller vehicles. National Highway Authority (NHA) officials stated that full restoration of the road is expected in the next two days, depending on weather conditions. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain over the next 48 hours, prompting caution.

Tourism-dependent locals in Naran have expressed joy at the reopening, anticipating the return of much-needed business activity. However, officials have advised tourists to avoid traveling to Naran until the route is fully functional, to prevent any untoward incidents.
