Jeremy Renner has gone public with a major behind-the-scenes issue surrounding his possible return as Hawkeye, claiming that Disney offered him half of his original salary for a second season of the Disney+ series.
During a candid appearance on High Performance, Renner revealed he declined the offer, calling it a disappointing lowball that didn’t reflect his value or commitment to the role.
“They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money,” Renner explained. “It’s going to take me twice the work for half the pay.” He suggested the 2023 snowplow accident he endured may have influenced the reduced offer, saying some may view him as “half the Jeremy” he used to be. Still, he stressed the issue lies with studio accountants, not Marvel itself.
The actor’s comments triggered an outpouring of support across social media. Fans criticized Disney for undervaluing a founding MCU actor, with many calling the offer “disrespectful.” Some noted that after everything Renner went through to recover, he deserved more recognition—not less.
Marvel Studios fix this right fucking now and give me back the best duo in the MCU! https://t.co/BiwrxeJBJQ

My respect for Jeremy Renner just went up!
Why do major film studios still think they can lowball actors when they get to keep most of the film/show’s profit?
Although I wish to see Jeremy Renner do more #Hawkeye stuff – good for him for turning it down. Go get your money Jeremy! https://t.co/bzDIM4tbac— A H 🧢 (@imakryptonian) May 1, 2025
Offering the title character of a show half of what they were paid for the first season basically flies in the face of the entire model of TV, where actors are paid more the longer it goes on. I don’t blame him for bailing, it’s a frankly insulting offer. https://t.co/I9DrrV7QGE

Renner added that he would love to reprise the role of Hawkeye, but only if paid fairly. “I didn’t ask for more. Just the same,” he said, later joking that his body is probably relieved he’s not suiting up again just yet.
For now, Hawkeye’s future on Disney+ remains unclear—but fans are definitely keeping an eye on it.
