HYDERABAD:

The Awami Tehreek, which organised a protest in Ghotki on Friday, deplored the Sindh government for handing over tens of thousands of acres of land for corporate farming. Party President Vasand Thari warned that if the Pakistan Peoples Party’s provincial government does not cancel the recently allotted land, totalling 52,713 acres, the intensity of the protests will be higher than the anti-canal protests.

Thari vowed to continue the struggle to protect Sindh’s land and river for as long as possible. He complained that the Taunsa Panjnad and Chashma Jhelum link canals have been opened in Punjab at a time when Sindh is dealing with severe water scarcity, noting that those canals can only be supplied water during flood situations.

Further, Thari questioned the neutrality of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) and argued that the forum is partisan with Punjab, declaring that any decision of the CCI that is meant to harm the province, will be trampled by Sindh’s people.
